    About Gabriella

Gabriella has been practicing as registered counsellor for over five years, and particularly enjoys working with couples who want to remain connected and are struggling to communicate effectively. Gabriella believes relationships are an opportunity for deep personal transformation and learning, and that through relationships challenges, you can strengthen and deepen your bond.

Many strategies for effective communication can be taught in easy to understand ways. Other times, challenges need a gentle guide to navigate the complexities and challenges that may not always have a straight answer.

Gabriella is warm, personable, laughs a lot, and is known for making her clients feel comfortable quickly.  She is heart-centred and will guide you to open your hearts to the process safely. She utilises Gottman, narrative, psycho-dynamic, strengths based and emotion focused therapy approaches, while tailoring her tools and style to adjust to the client needs and what their goals are.

Gabriella believes relationships can benefit from ongoing re-negotiating of the couple contracts so that you are best positioned to support each other through the life stages you’re experiencing, while giving your partner the best opportunity to flourish, change, and adapt to life as time goes on.

Many clients working with Gabriella report great enjoyment from their sessions, an appreciation of the practical tools they were taught, and that their hopefulness for the future of the relationship has been revived.

Other times, couples decide separate is the best option, and counselling can support clients to uncouple in the best way possible; Finding closure, acceptance, boundaries and co-creating a future plan.

Her greatest joy is seeing clients find individual insights, develop curiosity and compassion for their partner, and drop the guard and defences, choosing to turn towards tenderness and connection instead.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 5 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
    1. Observing couple dynamics and cycles easily
    2. Helping clients communicate effectively
    3. Exploring emotional needs
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Helping couples who truly love each other find reprieve and better ways to communicate, rather than continuing their destructive cycles.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

Many couples I work with are bogged down in domestic chores, early parenting and work stress. I invite them to find ways to connect in small and meaningful ways to bring back the joy, friendship and support of their relationships, will managing and working around the realities of relationship phases and life stress. Older couples who have held onto long term grievances have been guided to try alternative solutions, speak out, forgive and put in boundaries to protect their relationship and each others needs. This approach brings couples back together as a team, rather than being low on each other’s priority lists.
