    About Suzanne

Please note, Suzanne is only available for online sessions (estimated to be for the next few months) until she returns to a face-to-face location.

This Hart therapist is a tertiary educated counsellor with post graduate training and an extensive 20 years’ experience in relationship, intimacy, sexuality and personal wellbeing counselling. She provides a professional and confidential service to clients wanting to explore issues of concern regarding sex, sexuality and relationships.

She is a certified Sex Educator and Sex Therapist with ASSERT (Australian Society of Sex Educators, Researchers and Therapists 2009)  and is a clinical member of AAFT (Australian Association of Family Therapists).  She applies Bowlby’s Attachment Theory & Family Systems Theory to assist clients in their efforts to improve their wellbeing and relationship effectiveness.

Clients are encouraged to learn about, and develop the capacity to shift perspectives, and to appreciate the importance of our relationships – how it impacts our development, sense of self, ability to deal with others, and mental health.  That understanding their partner’s brain and attachment style can help them defuse conflict and build a secure relationship.  Also trained in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy, she utilises the Gottman Relationship Checkup  and report to identify the relationships strengths and challenges, concerns and recommendations.

Sessions are available in person, or via telephone or Skype by arrangement.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 30 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
    1. Mindfulness offers a new paradigm based on exploration rather than treatment. She calls this an inside-out approach, where the focus is on awareness rather than prescriptions for change. She is skilled at working with clients with their feelings, thoughts, mind, moods and mental and body states so that they can deal with both the ups and downs of life with greater competence and ability. She integrates Self-Compassion, Mindfulness and Coherency training for clients to increase skills of awareness, attention, supportive empathy, resilience, generosity and well-being.
    2. Sexuality is important for creating feelings of intimacy and connection. She offers mindful passion and presence training as a hopeful, compassionate and transformational way of working with the sexual issues that arise in all long-term relationships, not just troubled ones. This helps transform sex from a goal-driven activity into an alive and connected experience.
    3. Trained in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy. She utilises the Gottman Relationship Checkup, which is an online assessment tool that supports couples and clinicians by providing in-depth, scientific evaluations of a relationship’s strengths and challenges.
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Committed to working with relationships and the emotional and social wellbeing of people.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

She has helped couples recover from infidelity and other acts of betrayal (contempt, with neglect, with indifference, with violence) which are often traumatic. Clients value how she holds a loving, safe exploring space, where the couple can honestly and courageously look at themselves and their relationship, and work towards a new truth and rekindling desire.
