How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 35 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
    1. An ability to truly listen to the spoken and unspoken
    2. Accurate mental and feeling empathy
    3. Ability to establish rapport with a diverse clientele

A great counsellor is someone who is empathetic, creative and truly cares about others… cares about empowering others.

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

The process of integrating effective counselling strategies by skilfully developing the therapeutic alliance, inspiring hope, quickly focusing on achievable objectives, carefully selecting evidence-based practices, optimizing homework growth opportunities, and encouraging the treatment process and follow-up which then supports changes that can be maintained long after termination. This process to is both challenging and fulfilling.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

I have assisted many couples. Recently I worked with a young couple where the wife was attracted to a more exciting and positive man. She was disappointed in her husband of 10 years. He seemed to have very little ambition and was depressed. She was angry. Neither were listening to each other. He was hurt by her emotional betrayal. I saw them together and separately.

They learned to listen share and acknowledge each other. He was traumatised by her actions. I worked with the trauma. I taught them how to manage their moods how to listen with empathy and how to turn towards each other more positively. They changed their relationship and reconnected and even had intimacy after shunning it for 8 years.
