    About Cherie M

Cherie brings a mix of warmth and expert training to help couples and families navigate difficult patches in their relationships. As a Masters-level counsellor and psychotherapist, she specialises in helping clients with communication issues, conflict problems, low intimacy, parenting struggles, childhood trauma and family dynamics. She also has extensive experience in Family Court matters and shared parenting arrangements.

Cherie’s approach is to offer relationship therapy with a coaching edge, meaning she uses her expert assessment of the dynamics between people to gently guide them into adopting better practices. She works collaboratively to set therapy goals, offering choice at every point and building a strong rapport with her couples and families. Clients leave each session with a deeper understanding of relationship dynamics, tools to improve communication and the confidence to move forward.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

Over 10 years as a relationship therapist in private practice and as a trauma counsellor in agency settings.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?

    1. Warm and non-judgmental

    2. Fair and supportive

    3. Confident and collaborative

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

I enjoy providing clients with a safe and mediated environment to discuss their relationship concerns. I like to ensure everyone has a chance to feel fully heard. It is such a delight to share in clients’ new-found understandings and watch them build stronger connections.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

In their own words – this is what some of my recent clients have said: “Cherie, I want you to know how lucky and grateful we feel to have been able to work with you. You have been patient, kind and generous with your time and knowledge. We honestly couldn’t have recovered from [the affair] without you” – couple client, 2022.  “We are so very grateful for your support; not sure how we would have got through all our difficulties without you. We appreciate your professionalism, warmth, kindness, and honesty” – family client, 2021.  “Cherie you are an attentive, present and compassionate counsellor. My mother and I have learned how to be comfortable and self-trusting with each other again. Thank you for giving us a safe space to talk about our relationship” – adult family client, 2021.
