    About Christine

Christine is passionate about providing individual and couples counselling in Mermaid Beach. Her interests include mindfulness, emotion focused counselling and positive psychology. Christine is particularly interested in career development, anger management and couples counselling, having completed training in Gottman Couples Counselling and Emotion Focused Couples Counselling.

Her practice focuses on adults and the challenges and choices experienced in their lives. She is a firm believer of changing the things we can and accepting the things we can’t.

As well as couples counselling, Christine has a special interest in individual counselling, especially concerning stress, burn-out and anxiety in adults, and the impact this has upon life goals, relationships and other choices. She utilises various therapies and techniques such as CBT, ACT, mindfulness, visualisation, emotional focused therapy and emotional freedom techniques.

Christine believes that although we often find ourselves stuck, whether it be in relationships, careers, roles or belief systems for example, we are often unaware that we actually do have choice. Even if we choose to stay the same, we are making a choice. A choice that may impact our life and others greatly.

Christine believes in exploring and expanding choices with her clients. In her experience this leads clients to utilise their own strengths and to become more empowered. Thus enabling clients to make amazing and sometimes even hard choices in pursuit of their values, needs, goals and dreams.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

I have eleven years professional experience as a psychologist. However, I am a more mature age person and I believe that my counselling experience started long before this. All through my life people have gravitated to me and asked me to help them or talk to their partners and have said thank you so much for helping.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
    1. I am able to quickly identify the strengths and challenges of each couple. This is important to reflect back to them and important in designing the best treatment plan going forward. This reflection is very important to clients at a time when the relationship is strained because this provides hope that there is a way forward to rekindle their love.
    2. I believe in offering the most effective and most efficient therapy for all my clients. Couples are amazed at how quickly their relationships improve not only in the short term but long term due to skills that are taught and practised in session. I do this by fine tuning the way I teach these skills and by continuing to undertake further professional development.
    3. I believe in having a very balanced approach such as treating each individual with respect and empathy. Relationships are the interaction of two people and it is important to treat each individual in the relationship as having just as important needs as each other. Trying to keep it fair is difficult sometimes, however I do believe I do it well. My personality is friendly, fun, down to earth and compassionate. Hence, I find clients relax easily into the sessions. I have had a number of clients refer me to their friends, saying to see me because “Christine is genuine”.
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

I love to help clients as quickly as possible, especially if in crisis, to rekindle their love. It is so rewarding to see couples blossom once they learn the tools to fine tune their relationship. It is inspiring to see clients overcome trauma that has impacted on their relationships and sometimes their whole life. This enables clients to feel contented and secure in their relationship in the present and more able to protect their relationship into their future. I teach couples how to communicate more effectively, and to understand what love looks like for them. This helps improve their sense of intimacy and close connection.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

It is hard to pick one couple , but a common example is that of the one-off affair. Many people think they would never put up with this or that they would leave the relationship if it happened. However, what I find is that if the relationship has great qualities and got off track it can repair and in fact can be better than before. It is wonderful to see clients love beyond their old beliefs to embrace their partner following the period of pain and rebuilding. After all, it is easy to love when the love is not tested. So a love that is tested and is of good quality is worth going through the pain and repair work. This is a testimony to how strong the love really is and how much the relationship and love is worth saving.
