David is a highly qualified and well-respected clinical psychologist, with a wealth of life and professional experience. His approach is caring, well-informed, skilled and pragmatic. David has extensive academic qualifications in the sciences, including psychology. His diverse professional background includes experience in hospital pharmacy, social work and teaching – as well as provision of psychology services in a range of settings.
He has worked in psychology since 1980 – as a senior clinical psychologist in prisons, general and psychiatric hospitals, university counselling services, drug and alcohol clinics and in private practice. He has also provided consultancy services to Ngala Hospital, Racing and Wagering WA, Perth Human Sexuality Centre, the WA Police and the Commonwealth Department of Defence.
Having established his own private practice in Perth more than 30 years ago, David works with clients in a collaborative process to achieve the relationship goals they are seeking. He adopts a broad-spectrum approach to counselling, synthesizing the learnings of different schools of psychotherapy, as appropriate to the needs of the individual. Therapy is tailored to the preferences, circumstances and desired outcomes of the client.
David’s particular approach may include aspects of cognitive- behavioural therapy, Jungian Oriented Dreamwork, transactional analysis and Gestalt Therapy, as appropriate. Couples counselling is more ‘here-and-now’ focussed, with the emphasis on communication and conflict-resolution.
