Jo is a highly compassionate, empathetic and experienced registered counsellor, who has spent her working life supporting people through the experience of physical, emotional and mental health challenges.
A hallmark of Jo’s practice is ‘meeting people where they are’. This means understanding what a client’s hopes are for counselling, and working together to develop ideas and strategies to achieve them.
Jo works with young people, teenagers, couples, families and older people. She has a particular interest in neurodiversity, disability and is a Deaf Aware counsellor. Through Jo’s lived and professional experience, she is able to work compassionately with people feeling lost from the effects of grief, loss, anxiety, depression, anger, the changing shape of families, and fluctuations in in life circumstances.
It is Jo’s intent to enable people to feel comfortable, safe, heard, acknowledged and understood in the counselling room. She listens deeply to clients, ensuring that a respectful and equal connection can be established.
Narrative and solution focused therapy is Jo’s preferred method of working, and she also draws on family systems therapy to inform the process where it is useful to the client.
Jo understands that people might feel very vulnerable in the counselling space and she works with clients with safety in mind, without blame or judgement.
