About Liz

Liz is a warm, collaborative and passionate therapist, who has helped lots of couples get the kind of relationship they want. She believes change begins by understanding the unique story of your relationship and who you are as people. This helps to understand how you came to be in the position you are now, and what you need to be able to come out the other side stronger than before. This process often allows people to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their partner and their relationship patterns, which naturally leads to new insights and ideas on how to move forward.

Liz will help you learn and practice new relationship skills, including improving communication, re-establishing trust and intimacy, re-pairing after conflict, co-parenting effectively, and connecting with one another from a place of vulnerability. She will share her thoughts, ideas and specialist knowledge along the way.

She has worked as a couple and family therapist in private practice, community organisations, child and adolescent mental health, and family services.

More about Liz

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
  1. Warm
  2. Reflective
  3. Non-judgemental
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Creating a safe and non-judgemental space for couples to have honest and meaningful conversations with one another, from a place of vulnerability. Witnessing the connection that follows.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

A couple in their mid-30’s with two young children, ages 1 and 3, were on the brink of separation when they first came to see me. Their relationship had been strong before having children, however, the effects of covid lockdowns, post-natal depression and financial stress, had taken its toll on their marriage. They were arguing almost every day and they felt more disconnected than ever before.

I helped the couple share their experiences of these incredibly challenging times and how it had affected each of them and their relationship. This helped the couple understand and empathise with one another, repair relationship ruptures that were getting in the way of connection, and develop a shared story of these difficult years that was more balanced.

The couple learned about their unhelpful conflict patterns and what they could do differently to step out of these patterns. The couple found time for their relationship again, prioritising time for connection, and re-remembering why they chose each other in the first place. The couple stayed together and said they were finally on the same page.
