Michael works with adults and couples. In couples therapy the focus is on relationship styles and places we tend to become stuck. This includes interpersonal communications, power dynamics, gender differences, intimacy problems, emotional connection, family of origin influences, trust, attachment discrepancies, infidelity, parenting, and retirement concerns.
Michael draws on both wisdom from the past, and modern research and theory, and over three decades of clinical experience, to help you find answers to difficult situations and relationship problems, and to move towards your personal goals. His approach is summed up as LUV: listen, understand and validate, knowing that we all want to be heard and understood.
Michael provides a safe, supportive, non-judgemental, relaxed counselling space, and you are assured of advice you can trust. Michael also provides practical coping strategies and Mindfulness techniques that you can easily utilise. Michael’s approach is collaborative, strengths-based, empathic and geared to move at your desired pace. He believes in giving clients homework designed to keep them connected to the counselling space and process and inspired and motivated to achieve their goals.
