About Michael

Michael draws on both wisdom from the past, alongside modern research and theory, and over three decades of clinical experience, to help you find answers to difficult situations and relationship problems, and to move towards your personal goals. His approach is summed up as LUV: listen, understand and validate, knowing that we all want to be heard and understood.

Michael provides a safe, supportive, non-judgemental, relaxed counselling atmosphere. You are assured of advice you can trust, and Michael also provides coping strategies you can easily utilise. Michael’s approach is collaborative, strengths-based, empathic and geared to move at your desired pace.

Michael works with teens, adults and couples. He focuses on relationship dynamics and places we tend to become stuck. Other areas of interest include grief and loss especially around bereavement, the unexpected challenges that come with ageing, employment and workplace issues, social anxiety, lack of motivation, ‘breakdowns’, depression, general anxiety, sleep disturbances, chronic pain, and low energy states.

Michael is a member of the Australian Counselling Association.

More about Michael

How many years counselling experience do you have?

Over 10 years

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Helping people to find new ways of seeing their challenges and problems and discovering skills and competencies that they already have but are not able to easily recognise. Helping people bring joy back into their lives. Assisting people through times of grief and mourning.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

A couple who had been together for nearly 30 years who were discovering for the first time that they had very poor communication processes, a skewed power dynamic, one-sided financial control, and whose communications had become argument-based and reliant on mind-reading. They were relatively isolated with no external support from family and friends. Their relationship was problem saturated and almost all of their interpersonal engagements were negative. We slowly peeled the layers back to begin to institute a sense of safety, trust, communications awareness and empathy, and instilled the importance of instituting positive-themed engagement. They are still working on the issues between them with the goal of staying together.
