Peter is a highly accomplished counsellor and psychotherapist with over 12 years experience in the field. As a Couples’ Counsellor, Peter specialises in getting clients in touch with their emotions and feelings, as well as teaching them communication strategies that enable them to have the vulnerable conversations that strengthen their closeness and intimacy. Peter also works with infidelity and trust issues, and will tailor his approach to work towards any goals a couple may have. When working with couples, Peter uses an approach informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, Gestalt Therapy, Imago Therapy, and Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy of Stan Tatkin.
When working with individuals, Peter works with clients at all levels of their being: mental, emotional, physical/somatic, behavioural, and even spiritual, if required.
He specialises in helping clients be with and transform uncomfortable emotions – such as sadness, anger, hurt and grief – into positive emotions – such as calmness, peace, love and joy. Peter’s goal for all clients is that they develop new ways of being in the world, so that they can cope with life’s demands better and get more of their needs met.
Peter uses a variety of therapeutic approaches tailored to the client’s unique individual needs, including Gestalt Therapy, Mindfulness, Trauma Focused Therapy, Person Centred Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Transpersonal Counselling. Peter particularly enjoys working with Depth Enquiry, a powerful therapeutic approach to resolving trauma and underlying shame. Depth Enquiry can also be a useful way to work through phobias and anxiety or other uncomfortable emotions that need to be processed and worked through.
His therapeutic approach for both couples and individuals is to help clients explore their experiences in a supportive and non-judgmental environment that promotes greater self-acceptance.
