Peter is a skilled professional counsellor with experience across a broad range of issues facing teenagers, adults, couples, and families. He is registered member of the Australian Counselling Association, and has particular interest in relationship counselling, depression and anxiety, abusive behaviours, anger management, parenting, addiction & trauma recovery, and communication & conflict resolution. He is a very approachable, people person of many years life experience working with clients in a variety of settings and roles apart from counselling, including many years of volunteer work with the homeless, community support work, pastoral care, and school chaplaincy.
Peter is passionate about providing a caring and quality service, that empowers clients to make genuine and long-lasting positive changes to their personal lives and relationships. As a counsellor, he encourages and helps clients and their families find hope, and guides them onto a path of personal and relational restoration, wholeness, and overall health. Clients are treated with empathy and respect, free of judgment and bias, as they unpack their unique stories, and work toward agreed client-approved goals and targets. As a counsellor, he simply acts as a guide and facilitator, working with the client to develop a counselling and action plan specific to their particular needs.
The model of counselling used is an integrated, client-centred approach that looks at the past and the present, helping clients become self-aware of the root causes of challenges they are facing, and how to go about addressing them. He uses his sound knowledge and skill of a wide range of evidence-based, proven therapies including Bowen family systems methodologies, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Mindfulness, and Narrative therapy. The aim is to address the whole person; their mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health; as well as their social and relational wellbeing. He helps clients, couples and families discover their unused opportunities and strengths, along with guiding them to build practical new skill sets that enable them to go on to live sustainable, self-empowered fulfilling lives. He also provides counselling for those living with and/or supporting those who are in need of help.
