More about Scout

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
  1. Gentle and compassionate demeanor
  2. Open-minded
  3. Warm with the occasional splash of humour
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

It is incredibly hart warming watching couples come back from the brink of separation – witnessing the forgiveness, acceptance and re-nurturing of the love that has always been between them. Nothing is better than witnessing people develop a deeper state of love in their relationships, a stronger sense of self-worth, and applying the skills they learn in sessions to create more harmonious connections.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

A couple in their 30s came to me at the brink of separation. One partner had emotionally checked out of the relationship, stating that therapy was a last-ditch effort to ensure that when they left, they could say they had ‘tried everything’.

Both parties explored their attachment styles throughout our weekly sessions, revealing an anxious and avoidant dynamic. Both partners learnt how to functionally communicate, instead of using defence mechanisms such as stonewalling, deflecting and avoiding. They become aware of the relational blueprints handed down to them from their parents and were able to break out of intergenerational patterns. With time, they were able to rekindle the love and spark that initially brought them together more than a decade prior.
