About Tina

Tina is a warm, empathetic and skilled registered counsellor who understands and appreciates the vulnerability that it takes to trust in the counselling process. She feels great privilege in being chosen to hear and safeguard a client’s story, hence why she has always been drawn to the helping professions. Tina dedicated 30 years of her life to the education sector and has now been able to successfully transfer her skills, wisdom and knowledge to the individuals, couples and families she supports today.

She believes in the potential of all her clients and commits to working alongside them to empower them to see the potential in themselves. Her objective every time is that they leave in a better position than when they came in by adopting an approach that is authentic, compassionate and practical.

Tina works with young people (school age), teenagers, couples, families and elderly clients. She has a particular interest in couples and working with diverse family situations such as the complexities of extended families and in laws and situations where cultural expectations impact dynamics.

Tina’s ability to relate to others with genuine respect and understanding allows her to quickly establish a rapport with her clients that is built on a therapeutic partnership. Her approach invites the client to be an equal participant where they feel heard and valued.

Narrative and Solution Focussed Therapy are two of the modalities that Tina prefers to work in along with Solution Focussed Brief Therapy.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

I worked with a client who came to me to address his anger issues, which were affecting his relationship and daily life. He described moments of flaring up, raising his voice, and walking away from his spouse during conversations about trivial matters. These outbursts left him feeling regretful and ashamed. Outside of home, he also displayed sarcastic and sharp behaviour toward strangers when he felt wronged or frustrated. While these instances weren’t frequent, they were deeply troubling to him and left him mortified.

Throughout our sessions, I focused on understanding the root causes of his behaviour and guiding him toward effective strategies for change. Over the course of six sessions, I helped him identify actionable takeaways from each session. I encouraged him to reflect on these insights at home and use them as tools in real-life situations.

Six months later, he shared that he had experienced almost no anger since our work together. On the rare occasions he felt anger rising, he was able to recall the techniques we practiced, exercise self-control, and remain calm. This not only transformed his interactions with others but also brought him peace of mind. Previously, a 30-second flare-up would haunt him for days with regret, but now he feels empowered and at peace.
