Elaine is a very calm, warm and empathic counsellor who is passionate about helping her clients clarify the issues that are affecting their sense of happiness and supporting them to make the changes that they desire. She works at a pace that is comfortable to the client and tailors her approach depending on individual preferences, personality types and desired outcomes.

Elaine works with both individuals and couples in her Adelaide practice who present with a wide range of issues including: anxiety, stress, depression, anger issues, communication difficulties, relationship and sexual problems, infidelity, parenting problems and much more.

She has a special interest in working with couples, in new or long-standing relationships. Elaine gently brings awareness to any destructive patterns and habits that may have formed over a long period of time, or may have been brought from previous relationships and childhood experiences. Her skill is in seeing the things that may be difficult to see from the inside and helping people, without judgement or pressure, to find a way forward that honours the needs of both partners.

She uses a humanistic, person-centred approach in her practice including Gestalt therapy and mindfulness techniques. She works with clients in a creative and open way that ensures it is a joint process that seeks to empower and bring confidence to everyone involved. She is naturally skilled in hearing her client’s unique perspective and understanding and bringing to light the ways people are thinking, feeling and behaving and how this is affecting their interactions and personal sense of wellbeing. She is experienced in teaching and supporting people to communicate in healthy, honest and respectful ways that greatly improve their relationships.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    4 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
    1. Ability to create a safe space where each person feels comfortable to express and share their feelings, often for the first time.
    2. Skilled in listening & observing in the here & now and gently bringing to light people’s triggers, relationship dynamics and ingrained patterns of relating to each other.
    3. Supporting & nurturing people towards new habits and perspectives that improve their relationships and personal wellbeing.
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Being honoured to be part of a couple’s intimate journey and seeing them become more aware of themselves and recognising the power they have to make their own unique and fulfilling choices that lead to positive outcomes.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

I recently worked with a couple who felt disconnected from each other both emotionally and sexually and were on the brink of separation. Through our 7 sessions together they learned to communicate more effectively and they realised that they very much wanted to be together and rekindled a sense of fun and romance. They now look forward to travel & retirement together.

Peter’s passion is Relationship Counselling in his Adelaide clinic. Your life is now not how it once was with you and your partner. Something’s changed, maybe the spark has left your relationship and perhaps some conflict has entered. Yet, the remnants of the good times remain, the memories of what has been created by you both together. Something gained which could be lost. The question is, what is it that is important to do now?

Peter draws upon personal training and clinical experience with relationships to answer this question. He helps you to diagnose your situation with creative counselling which will highlight all the important aspects of your relationship. Whether these issues relate to emotion, such as anger; personality issues, such as narcissism; human issues, such as sex and sexuality; family issues relating to parenting; mental health issues, like anxiety and depression; or, personal issues around conflict or relationship skills, Peter can offer sensible, practical, and reliable guidance, which will help you make your own decisions.
