    About Dianna-Lee

This Hart Psychologist is an experienced Counselling Psychologist, Couples Counsellor and Fertility Counsellor in Melbourne. She is passionate about relationship counselling and creating strong connections with her clients through transparency, respect and mutual reciprocal communication. Her clients feel comfortable knowing they can open up in a safe and confidential environment about the concerns or issues significantly impacting their relationships.

The mutual respect and reciprocal nature of her approach allows her to use a variety of evidence-based approaches to help her clients get to a healthier and happier place. She has helped hundreds of people in this way for over 20 years.

The foundation of her approach is her passion for helping couples recognise what they are bringing to the relationship and the impact it has on themselves, as well as their partner. This has seen her help many couples improve their communication, resolve long-standing disagreements, address their fertility needs, develop trust and respect, overcome struggles with sex and intimacy, move through life transitions, navigate family influences or to reconnect.

In addition, this Hart Psychologist’s interest and extensive knowledge in working with romantic relationships is extended to working with family relationships, friendships, relationships at work, small businesses and partnerships. As a registered and qualified Counselling Physiologist she works with individuals and families in successfully helping them to deal with a variety of needs, such as depression, anxiety, loss and grief, anger, narcissism, emotions, fears, indecision, sensitivity and troubles related to work and career.

Finally, she has led group programs that have helped people to improve their self-awareness, sensitivity, understanding of how they perceive the world, IVF and Fertility. She prefers to collaborate with her clients and engage them in open and honest discussions around their main areas of focus, the duration of the work, how progress will be reviewed, and what success looks like. Her clients are active participants in the therapeutic process and ultimately, in their own healing beyond the counselling room. She is able to offer face-to face, SKYPE-based and telephone-based meetings.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 20 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?

As a highly sensitive person (HSP) I am:

    1. Able to see between what the clients are saying and presenting in session, which enables me to ask open questions about what I am observing or noticing.
    2. Comfortable with conflict in sessions and am able to help clients recognise that continuing with the ways they have always managed will disconnect them as a couple rather than connect them.
    3. Clients have reflected that they like my direct approach, that I am empathic and understanding of their experiences and have a vast knowledge of resources, intervention, strategies, theories, evidence to share with them.
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

I have the privilege to hear client’s stories and in them trusting me to help them the best way I can.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

A couple trapped in Patriarchy and cultural differences. The couple, the man (Australian) had all the power and the women (Japanese) had none. Helping them navigate their cultural differences and expectations of a couple hoping to become parents through IVF. Explore Attachment injuries, cultural differences, past relationship expectations negatively impact current relationship, reviewing and updating outdated expectations, identifying vulnerabilities, learning a new language of communication, overcoming obstacles in their fertility journey (eg: he had children from previous marriage and did not want more children, she had no children and wanted a child), reviewing old expectations or agreements to help couple move towards a reunited committed future. Outcome: agreed to explore IVF and resulted in a live birth.
