    About Elena

Elena is a considerate, warm and patient therapist who listens to the needs of her clients. As a Social Worker in Private Practice with the foundation of a Psychology Degree, Elena uses a holistic approach that is tailored to each couples unique and individual situation.

She implements evidence-based psychological theories to normalise your current situation, and realistic achievable strategies to make a positive difference when you leave each session. Elena makes sure both parties are heard equally and have the space to express their perspective, ultimately building stronger empathetic connections.

Together with her practice in Arana Hills; Elena is also the Brisbane Mothers’ Mental Health Network Coordinator, publishes monthly articles in several outlets, and customises training & education for her clients on her YouTube channel. These are examples of a holistic approach to her clients needs for education, empowerment and normalising how we all can struggle at maintaining our unique and healthy relationships.

Her ultimate aim in couples counselling is to increase intimacy, affection and respect in every relationship. This will lead to stronger empathetic communications and ultimately reduce conflicts because each partner grows greater compassion and understanding for each other. By listening to all perspectives, she is able to Identify negative cycles or patterns that hurts their relationship and adopting new positive and healthy interactions. This doesn’t only help the couples in the session, it can also be implemented into each others daily lives to impact their work, family and friend relationships as well – leading to greater sense of wellbeing and shared purpose.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 5 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
    1. Compassionate – I empathise without judgement and sit with you when you are hurting, it motivates me to help you find the answers you seek so you can leave with the solutions you need.
    2. Patient – It can be overwhelming to open up and be vulnerable with a stranger, especially if you are not used to expressing your thoughts. It takes time and practice so I am always patient and understanding
    3. Flexibility – We are all different and need different approaches, I personalise my therapy from the responses of my clients so we can all figure out what unique strategies will work for you to make long term positive change.
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

I genuinely get excited to see my clients, they have graciously invited me to participate in their deeply personal journeys so I enjoy seeing everyone grow, admire the positive changes and encourage when it all seems too much. The thing about therapy is sometimes it feels like it gets worse before it gets better (because you are digging up things that you have purposely buried) but those with the strength to continue and believe in their process to build a better life, I will support and empower in whatever ways are individual and unique to them.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

One on my favourite couples were actually a separated couple! They were ‘staying together’ for personal reasons even though they weren’t romantically aligned – with my counselling; they were able to grow together, have more respect for each other, communication increased and conflict diminished, their children were happier, they were able to be genuinely happy for each other’s individual accomplishments and encouraged each other to succeed. They were eventually also supportive of each other finding new partners while keeping respectful to the family unit with no animosity. I am so proud of their growth and a positive example to all that counselling should be normal in any relationship. They are now able to teach the principles they have learned in our sessions to their children & future partners to have a respectful harmonious family unit.

I believe if you can have success with a happily separated couple, the possibilities are endless with a happily married couple.
