    About Georgia

This hart therapist is a trained and experienced practitioner with a Masters in Couple and Relationship Therapy and a Bachelor in Social Work. She has dedicated her practice to working exclusively with relationship issues. She offers counselling for relationships in all their forms.

She does not make judgments about who is right or wrong, nor will tell clients what to do or what decisions to make. Rather, she provides the space and opportunity to explore the issues, feelings and options for a way forward.

This may involve working to nurture and improve an existing relationship or reflecting on what’s not working well. She works from the basis that relationships are complex and require lifelong attention. In her practice, she has found that when personal relationships are not working well, the ability to cope with other areas of life and often affected too.

This hart therapist is warm and inviting, open and insightful. She is passionate about assisting couples to feel more in tune with each other, improve communication and connect at a deeper level. She works hard to ensure a safe and supportive space for individuals and couples to explore their inner world and that of their partners.

Her therapeutic approach draws from a range of overarching frameworks including family systems, psychodynamic psychotherapy, emotion focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and couple and family therapy.

She works with individuals and couples experiencing a range of difficulties including communication, sex, desire and intimacy, infidelity, parenting, addictions, navigating the online space, grief, loss, infertility, the joining of two families and separation.

The first counselling session aims to obtain a ‘helicopter’ view of the relationship or issue. This may include the difficulties that have brought the couple to counselling, the history of the problem, what the couple would like to get out of the sessions and some information about past experiences. This then becomes useful in subsequent sessions to address the important matters as they arise.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

I have 20 years counselling experience in a range of practice contexts including drug and alcohol, parenting, mental health, justice related/domestic and family violence counselling, end of life and new diagnosis cancer care counselling.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?

I am able to hold the balance of each partner in mind equally, maintaining an empathic and supportive understanding of each story. I am experienced and therefore able to manage the intensity and distress that couples can present with. I am efficient and work hard to ensure time together is productive and meaningful.

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Witnessing couples reclaim their relationship, deepen the conversation, accept and work with the unique challenges as well as connect in new and deeper ways.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

Every couple presents their own unique blueprint. Couples that I have helped the most are those that build the confidence to turn to each other rather than to me.
