Alyssa approaches her work with professionalism and kindness. She creates a warm, accepting space for clients to explore difficult issues. With a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and many years of experience and additional training, she is highly skilled in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health.

She sees her role as collaborating with her clients, to develop a personalised approach to address the client’s concerns. Often, this begins with a focus on surviving, and moves into thriving. Alyssa specialises in couples’ therapy (with a focus on LGBTQIA+ and diverse relationship structures), mood disorders, trauma, and coping with physical illness. She has advanced training in emotionally focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, schema therapy, EMDR, and professional coaching.
She understands and respects the strength it takes to do psychological work. She believes individuals do the best they can with the skills and learning they have.

LGBTQIA+ ally – love is love.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 14 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?
    1. Empathy and warmth
    2. High level of training and qualifications in multiple treatment approaches
    3. Strong ability to conceptualise and develop personalised treatment plans
What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Watching people learn the skills they need to handle life’s difficulties and thrive. Watching them go from suffering to finding reward and enjoyment in life.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

A couple that came to me with conflict (regular arguments), due to cultural differences and different communication styles. We reduced the conflict and implemented a healthy communication style, which allowed them to explore their wants and needs in the relationship. They are now married and expecting their first child.
