Bring back the spark that was lost so that sex and lovemaking is one of best parts of your relationship again.

Sex Therapy & Counselling for Individuals & Couples

Sex Therapy & Counselling for Individuals & Couples

Sex and lovemaking can be the most delicious or dissatisfying part of your life and your relationship. Sex is about so many things; Love, fun, eroticism, lust, connection, pleasure, ravishment and surrender.

Great sex and lovemaking can be the glue that keeps you feeling deeply and physically connected with each other, enabling you to weather many other kinds of storms in your relationship and life in general. Even though sex is a common topic for jokes  in many social conversations, most couples don’t really talk much about what they like and don’t like with each other, nor are most people educated on how to have a great and healthy sex life.

The Hart Centre is Australia’s largest sex therapy and relationship counselling network, with over 230 Hart Certified therapists across the country — including dedicated sex therapy teams in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, and beyond, plus online sessions Australia-wide.

Our Sex Therapists are Experts
Across Multiple Areas

We have found that on most occasions our sex life and our relationships are intricately linked so having joint skills and knowledge in both fields as therapists allows us to get the the heart of any combined problem and help you create both a better sex life and better relationship.

It is assumed that once you have been together for a period, that the fun and quality of your sex life naturally diminishes, but research has shown that this is not the case, and that the best sex actually happens in couples who have been in a committed relationship for 15 years or longer.

My husband and I recently did a few counselling sessions with William. I have never been to counselling previously and found Williams approach very empathetic whilst holding us to account. We felt very comfortable with William which made the process so much easier to manoeuvre through as it is not always easy to express yourself to a stranger. Would highly recommend William for any counselling.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sex Therapy

It's normal to have questions before booking your first session. Here are answers to what our clients ask us most.

  • Sex therapy is delivered by trained professionals usually psychologists, counsellors, or other healthcare practitioners who’ve completed additional, specialised training in sexual and relationship concerns. It’s worth knowing that a sex therapist’s role is distinct from that of a sexual surrogate: sex therapy is entirely talk-based, and at no point does it involve physical touch or contact between therapist and client.

  • Sex therapy can help you understand what’s really going on beneath a sexual concern. Whether that’s low desire, performance anxiety, mismatched libidos, or difficulty feeling connected during intimacy and build practical steps toward a more satisfying sex life.

It’s completely normal to feel a bit awkward talking about sex and intimacy at first, especially with someone you’ve just met. Sex therapists are specifically trained to help you feel at ease, and skilled at gently drawing out the details of a concern that might otherwise feel too uncomfortable to bring up elsewhere.

  • Sessions are talk-based, much like any other counselling appointment. Your therapist will take time to understand your concerns, history, and goals, and may suggest exercises or conversations to try outside of sessions. There is no physical examination or activity that takes place during a session. It’s a safe, confidential space to talk openly.

  • For many people, yes. Talk-based sex therapy alone leads to meaningful improvement. For some concerns, particularly those with a physical or medical component, your therapist may also recommend working alongside your GP or a specialist. Part of the first few sessions is figuring out what combination of support will actually help you.

  • Yes. Like all counselling at The Hart Centre, sex therapy sessions are completely confidential, giving you a private space to speak openly without judgment.

  • Either is completely appropriate. Some people prefer to explore a concern individually first, while others find it more helpful to work through it together with their partner from the start. Your therapist can help you figure out what approach suits your situation as things progress, there’s no wrong way to begin.

  • The Hart Centre has sex therapists available across the country, including in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and more, as well as online sessions Australia-wide. Find your nearest therapist here.
