    About Therapist

Janelle has over 30 years’ experience working with individuals, couples and families. In her sessions she offers practical strategies and deeper exploration of your feelings and experiences. She has a particular interest in exploring the emotions and beliefs that we hold which can get us stuck in problematic and repetitive patterns of relating. By becoming aware of these patterns and understanding them, we can step out of conflict and rebuild connection and intimacy.

Her approach moves away from blame and criticism, instead focusing on compassion, acceptance and how to repair connections and relationships. She listens empathically and holds you gently and patiently throughout this process. She is compassion focused and relational in her approach. She will be interested in your family of origin and early attachment experiences as they impact you in your current life. She is also solution focused and will offer experiential strategies such as emotional regulation and mindfulness during your session.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 30 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?

    1. My ability to explain relational dynamics in simple language and concepts.
    2. Open mindedness regarding relationship and sexual preferences.
    3. Being fully present to the client’s experience, and my ability to self regulate thus helping clients to co-regulate.

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Watching clients transform from distress and overwhelm to calm and centred being and relating. Supporting couples to move out of conflict and into connection.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

Many examples! A woman in her early 30s, presented with relationship distress. Feeling like her partner was ambivalent and non- committal. We explored her behaviour, fears and hopes, as well as providing her with strategies to respond to her partner that held them both in understanding and compassion. She was able to reduce her anxiety about her relationship. In turn, her partner was able to make a deeper commitment to her.
