    About Therapist

This registered Hart Clinical Psychologist works with individuals, couples and groups, in both long and short-term psychotherapy and counselling. Her therapeutic style follows an integrative approach, drawing from diverse theories according to each clients’ needs or preferences.

She is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society, and has more than 30 years experience as an individual, couple and group therapist, and is also a certified family mediator. Having been born and raised in Brazil, she also speaks Portuguese.

Relationship counselling is one of her passions.  She has extensive experience working with couples in distress, including same-sex couples and cross-cultural relationships. She also assists couples who are planning cohabitation or marriage, blending families, or considering a separation or divorce. She provides counselling for sexual addictions and other behavioural addictions (not including active substance addictions, such as alcohol and drugs).

Creating a safe environment, where individual and cultural differences are valued and confidentiality is taken seriously, is central to her approach.  She enjoys helping clients solve problems and develop the full potential of their relationships.

How many years counselling experience do you have?

    Over 30 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?

Warmth, authenticity, balance between support and challenge.

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

Seeing couples digging deeper and finding themselves and each other again, overcoming their distress, learning not only how to resolve their conflicts together but transforming their relationship into a more authentic and satisfying partnership.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

There are many examples, but one that comes to mind is the couple who were stuck in a longstanding, very negative spiral of blame and disconnection around their different sexual needs. I helped them deepen their conversations, increase their knowledge of themselves, each other and their conflict, and resolve their differences in a caring and satisfying way.
