Kriss is a patient, discerning, flexible and compassionate counsellor with over 20 years’ experience helping people navigate anxiety, grief, trauma and relationship challenges across a variety of professional roles.
His journey to becoming a couple’s therapist was somewhat serendipitous. After working as a child protection social worker, Kriss discovered that working with couples was a particular passion. His background in social work has also given him a deep understanding of complexity, family dynamics and trauma-informed practice.
Over the years, Kriss has supported hundreds of people across Australia, from all walks of life, through a wide range of challenges. His fiercely non-judgemental approach creates a space where people can feel comfortable being open, understood and genuinely safe.
Kriss is particularly passionate about working with couples experiencing challenges related to addiction, infidelity, and trauma. He has also completed training in neurodiversity in relationships. Alongside his couple’s work, Kriss supports individuals and men navigating relationship difficulties, anger challenges, separation and other significant life adversities.
Outside of his work, Kriss loves to travel, snow ski, scuba dive and play competitive squash. When he’s not pursuing one of these activities, he enjoys spending time with friends and family — and, most importantly, his wife of over 20 years.
Kriss’ official title is an accredited mental health social worker, he holds a Master of Social Work from Flinders University and has completed postgraduate studies in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as Loss, Grief and Trauma Counselling.
His therapeutic approach draws on a range of evidence-based modalities, including Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Levels 1 and 2), Schema Therapy (Levels 1 and 2), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). He tailors his approach to each person and relationship, recognising that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy.
He sees people at his location in Paddington, Brisbane, as well as online. If mental health care plan is acquired from your GP; individual sessions can be subsidised. Some mental health insurers will cover either individual or couple’s sessions.
Ultimately, Kriss’s focus is on creating a safe and supportive space where you can explore your experiences, build resilience, better understand yourself and your relationships, and move towards the future you want.
