More about Jerty

How many years counselling experience do you have?

Over 16 years.

What are three strengths you have as a Psychologist/Counsellor?

I believe I have many strengths including empathy, instil hope in others and passionate about what I do.

What is the most satisfying and fulfilling part of the work you do?

I love to see the glimmer of hope in people’s eyes when they realise things can improve and the future suddenly looks brighter.

What’s an example of a couple you have helped the most?

Over the years, I have worked with many couples but the one that stands out the most is a couple who engaged in therapy for many years.  They had been together since they were young teenagers (16 years old) and the initial therapeutic intervention was alcohol related.  One partner was drinking excessively and this was creating friction in their marriage. Then they received counselling for intimacy issues, followed by parenting issues and then managing issues related to a child on the Autism spectrum.  This was a very rewarding experience because I was able to work holistically with this couple while integrating many of my psychology expertise to assist them in overcoming their many life challenges.  More importantly, it was particularly heartening to see this couple evolve into a stronger and emotionally connected not only couple but family unit.
